If you've tried to get into the market of article writing for profit, you've probably learned that it is not as easy as they make it sound. The problem that a lot of people have is they read a little bit on the warrior forums, digital point, or some other marketing forum about people making a bunch of money and how easy it is so so they whip up a few articles, stuff it with links at the end and expect a steady stream of income.
Sorry! It does not work like that!
Gone are the days where competition is light and its easy to push a product up to the top of the directory and gone where the days where writing a mediocre article and stuffing it with keywords secures you a page one ranking in Google. These days you have to be creative with your marketing skills. There are plenty of ways to make money writing articles if you're willing to diversify:
Article writing on EzineArticles.com and other article directories: While the latest Google panda update has knocked back articles in the search engines, writing articles on EzineArticles.com and other article directories is still relevant. You get readers focused in on the topic you're pitching, other websites may syndicate your work, and a back link is still a back link. Writing articles is still a great way to bring visitors to your site that are interested in the topic of the website. Since they just got done reading about "pool sticks", your website that pitches "pool sticks" is quite relevant to the visitor. In this way, you can make money off your site's traffic either through products or advertising. This takes time though. Most folks that fail, fail because they give up too early. Be ready to invest a lot of time before seeing any returns.
Article writing on Fiver: Fiver is a website that is all about offering a service or product that cost five dollars. Here, you can offer to write an article of say 400 – 500 words for five bucks. While that is not a whole heck of a lot of money, it adds up over time. Even more important, you gain a contact and reference. A lot of my business comes from folks that I finish a job for on Fiver for that are happy with my work and want to hire me for something bigger. That's where you make the real money. Do not be afraid to market yourself. Good things only come to those who ask.
Find a writing database: Find a good database that list and submits writing jobs. A lot of these databases cost money, but its money well spent if you find a good one. Make sure that you have a portfolio of your best articles ready as a lot of potential employers will ask for it. One of the best ways to market yourself in these databases is the next point …
Make a blog or website to advertise yourself: Not only do blogs and websites make a good platform to advertise and sell yourself, but they also serve as a database of articles you've written to use as examples of your work to interested clients. Having articles that you've written and published available for folks to review greatly increases your credit and adds to sales. You can advertise your blog in articles you write on forums, directories, signature links, twitter, and just about anywhere else you can add a link.
Advertise on Craigslist: Companies are always looking for cheap publicity, press releases or anything that might increase visibility. Pitch these services to companies on Craigslist. Use your website as your portfolio and use it as part of your sales pitch. Tell your customers what article marketing and press releases can do for their company and that you're willing to do the job professionally for a reasonable price. Like Fiver, make sure that you get references and ask for job leads when you finish a job.
The article writing market has never been tougher. None the less, webmasters, syndicates, bloggers, and salesmen are always looking for articles with a great deal of quality and creativity. Make a good portfolio of original creative articles and do not be afraid to get out there and try something. Most of the above options take little to no investment other than some time. If you stick with it and are in it for the long haul, I think you'll find article writing most rewarding.
